Video of Maggie

Maggie has been trying to say "Hi!" when we say hi to her. Sometmes it sounds more like "I!", but she uses it at appropiate times, like when we walk into the room or when we say hello first. I caught it on camera, as well as her being just generally very cute!! She is six and a half months now!! Oh my goodness! Also, she started sitting up all on her own this weekend. So cute, and she is gettting so good at it, too. I love her and it so fun (and a little unnerving)to see how quickly she is changing.

Various Happenings

So, lots of stuff has been going on around here. Sadly, Maggie contracted RSV about a month ago. For those of you who don't know, RSV is basically a bad strain of the cold virus. For adults, it's no big deal. Basically another cold. For infants, it can be deadly. Maggie was a little over five months when she got it, so we were told she was at risk for it getting really bad, but a lot better off than a newborn When newborns get RSV, it's an automatic hospital stay. Maggie had a rough first week, as her nose was completely plugged up with mucus, and she had a horrible cough. We gave her breathing treatments every 3-4 hours and suctioned out her nose about every hour or two. She was super tired and slept a lot, and she just acted sick. Lethargic, and unhappy. Poor baby. Thank God, she continued to get better and she stayed out of the hospital (yes!!!). We were warned that it would be a long fight, and that every time she gets sick now, she will probably need breathing treatments. I guess this will last for a couple YEARS! Well, she's sick again and this time her breathing seems worse! I'm going to take her back to the doctor tomorrow. I don't know if this is the same case of RSV or a new illness..it's so confusing! In better news, Maggie is gaining more and more independence! She's rolling around so well and yesterday she sat up all on her own for the first time. She's been able to sit if we helped her, and then she could sit by her self for about five seconds, but yesterday she sat by herself for about two or three minutes!!! She was even flapping her arms and leaning forward, and she kept correcting her self so she wouldn't fall. I was so, so proud!! We also started really feeding her solids when she turned six months, and she has been doing so great. She has had bananas, sweet potatoes, pears, applesauce, peas, rice cereal (her first food) and baby oatmeal. She also had a teeny tiny taste of refried beans because Daddy felt so bad when she kept grabbing the burrito he was eating and crying. I think we're going to start transitioning her to a high chair when we go out to eat. I think she would be so happy to look around and see everybody. She is just such a joy. Just pure joy! And her sleeping schedule has become AMAZING!! Before she got sick, she would refuse to nap all day, and would get so over tired that she would fight sleep all night until she finally went to sleep at 10:00 or 10:30 pm. She would sleep all through the night, not making a peep until 8:00 am. Then she would come into bed with me for another hour or two, where she would nurse and I would sleep more. Then we would start our day around 10:30 in the morning. Now, she is up by 7:30, takes her first nap by 10:30 am, is up until about 1:30 and then takes another nap, and then she takes her final nap around 4:00. Then (and this is the best part) she goes to sleep for the night at 8:00 pm!! So, I used to take care of her all day, with no breaks until 10:30 at night. Now I get about three hours of breaks during the day, and about three hours after she goes to sleep. I feel like a different woman. No joke, this has been the best thing. I do have to worry about nap time now, and getting her home before a meltdown, but I don't mind. She seems SO MUCH happier now. I think she was just tired ofr the first five months of her life. I tried and tried to get her to sleep, but somehow she figured it out by her self. It is so great!! I have time to clean, make dinner, make phone calls, read my bible, start blogging again (!) and just feel like my daily life is more than just being a mommy. I love my life and I was happy before, but I would definitely feel like having a mental breakdown by the time Friday rolled around (and sometimes I would!) Also, Maggie loves going out and about. We go on a walk every day, mostly around the neighborhood, but also in the park. I love to take her to see new places and she is so good. People always comment on what a mellow baby she is. I don't think she's necessarily mellow (this little girl is so active), but she is just so fascinated by everything. Yesterday, I went to Outback wit my mom, my brother and Mark and an older lady stopped by to see Maggie. As she was leaving she said "She is just so precious. You better watch out, she's the kind people take"!!!!! I laughed so hard as soon as she left. People say the craziest things when you have a baby. So funny!

Happy 1/2 Birthday, Maggie!!!

Dear Magdalena,

Happy 1/2 Birthday, baby girl!! You are already six months old! Time has gone by so quickly. It seems like you just came home from the hospital. You were so tiny and adorable, just a little porcelain face peeking out of your baby burrito. Your birth was completely different than we expected, but you were PERFECT! Every nurse commented on how beautiful you were, telling us a lot of newborns look like aliens. But not you. You have lit up every room you have ever been in, including the delivery room. You are so gorgeous and every day you become even more so. But, you are so much more than a pretty face. You are hilarious!!! You laugh all the time, and love discovering new things. You like to see mommy act crazy in front of you, and love to hear singing. You love seeing new places, and you especially love being outside and checking out this world that is still new to you. You love your mommy and daddy and you love to snuggle. You are started to reach out your arms towards us when we pick you up and it is such a good feeling. I can only pray that you will continue to reach out to me for help as you grow older and more independent. You have impressed us with your physical strength and you are now rolling all over the place. You love to jump in your jumperoo, which you do for hours every day. You love to play with toys and touch new textures. You babble all the time, and you are currently trying to say hi at the appropriate times, which is so amazing and fun. I love that you act like a little person. You rub your eyes and yawn when you get tired, which tells me you want to snuggle with your white blanket and go to bed. When you wake up, you almost always stretch really big and let out a toot. Your eyes are green! How did that happen?! You are finally gaining weight, yet people always tell me how petite you are. They never believe you are six months old. Right now, I love that you are my tiny baby girl. I love you in a way I have never experienced. You are such a precious gift, and that is how I view you. You are not mine, you are God's, but you have been entrusted to me for a short time. I am so honored that I have been chosen to be your mom. You are amazing, and I see amazing things when I look into your sweet face. You, young lady, will change the world. You will be a history maker. You already charm everyone, and I know God has given you a heart for people. You will be an amazing mother and wife. You will preach to the multitudes. You are a leader! Whatever your dreams are, I know they will be fulfilled. I see your life, and I am in awe that not only will I be there to witness it, but that I am the one you call "Mommy". This is only the beginning, dear daughter, and I am so excited to see exactly what plans God has for you. Maggie Roo, Roo, Roo-berry, Roo-berry muffin, Ruby Roo, Roobenstein, Mag Pup, Pup, Pup-a-roo, Baby Roo, Small fry, Small Fry with ranch dressing..whatever nickname we use..I LOVE YOU and I can't wait to have many more wonderful adventures with you!!

Love always,

Mommy
